Lufthansa Cargo confirms that negotiations have taken place between the governments of Germany and Russia regarding the carrier’s overflight rights, which have now been granted until the end of the summer schedule 2008.
This settles a dispute that resulted in the temporary banning of Lufthansa Cargo from Russian airspace.
The ban fuelled speculation that Russia was twisting the airline’s arm to shift its hub from Astana in Kazakhstan to Krasnoyarsk in Siberia.
Both parties deny that the two issues are linked.
However, Lufthansa Cargo confirmed that it has agreed to move to Krasnoyarsk - provided commercial and operational requirements are met - five months after Krasnoyarsk Airport has successfully implemented CAT II measures.
Negotiations between both governments will be continued in September 2008.
