British Airways and BAA announce significant disruption to flights departing from Heathrow Terminal 5 due to problems associated with processing customers’ hold baggage. As a result, customers due to travel on flights departing Terminal 5 will be able to travel with hand baggage only.
Flights from other Heathrow terminals are operating normally and customers flying from other terminals should check in as usual.
Customers affected by the disruption can rebook to fly on a different date or obtain a refund, according to British Airways website.
All passengers are advised to check the status of their flight before they leave for the airport. BA is extremely disappointing that this should happen on the first day of our operations from Terminal 5.
During the first day of operation 33 short-haul flights cancelled.
Meanwhile more than 200 eco-demonstrators appeared in the terminal wearing T-Shirts with the words “Stop Airport Expansion” . As a result tight security was in place by the relevant authority.
For the history the first passengers to arrive at the new terminal were from Hong Kong at 4:50 a.m., while the first outbound plane left the airport at 6:20 a.m. bound for Paris.
