Airbus expects order cuts due to oil price

5/30/2008 9:59:50 AM

Airbus expects carriers to cancel or defer aircraft orders because of the cutback in flights and routes due to the high oil price.

But the plane maker is sticking with its plans to increase production.

The cancellations are expected to most likely affect the strong-selling single-aisle models. Airbus currently delivers 34 of these type of planes a month. By the end of 2009, Airbus plans to increase production to 40 planes a month.

JetBlue Airways of the US and Australia's Qantas Airways recently deferred Airbus orders due to soaring fuel prices.
