Grand Alliance ocean carriers Hapag-Lloyd, NYK and OOCL are set to switch Southern California port calls from Long Beach to Los Angeles on their weekly Europe/North America/Asia Pacific Atlantic Express (PAX) pendulum service.
The last vessel call at Long Beach will be made by New York Express on June 27/28. The vessel Oakland Express will make the inaugural Los Angeles visit on July 4/5.
The PAX, along with two other Grand Alliance transatlantic services -- Gulf Atlantic Express (GAX) and Gulf Mexico Express (GMX) -- recently shifted its U.K. calls from Southampton to Thamesport.
The service uses 13 ships -- all from Hapag-Lloyd bar one NYK vessel -- averaging 4,750 TEUs. The revised port rotation will be Thamesport; Antwerp; Bremerhaven; Rotterdam; Halifax, Nova Scotia; New York/New Jersey; Norfolk, Va.; Savannah, Ga.; Manzanillo, Panama; Los Angeles; Oakland, Calif.; Yokohama; Kobe; Yantian; Hong Kong; Kobe; Nagoya; Tokyo; Seattle, Wash.; Oakland; Balboa, Panama; Manzanillo; Savannah; Norfolk; New York; Halifax; and finally back to Thamesport.
