Garuda back to Europe?

7/8/2009 10:03:15 AM

Indonesian airline Garuda is expected to resume flights to Europe early in 2010 following the partial lifting of a blanket ban imposed on all Indonesian-based airlines in 2007 after a series of air accidents and concerns over air safety.

The EU's Air Safety committee has recommended that the ban be lifted on Garuda Indonesia and three other airlines - Mandala Airlines, Airfast Indonesia and Premiair  - which are now understood to have met EU's stringent safety standards.

The first route to be revived by Garuda is expected to be Jakarta-Amsterdam.
