Capacity between Australia and the US is going up as Qantas is launching a weekly freighter service from its home base to Dallas/Fort Worth with Boeing 747-400F equipment.
"This is a market that we have been looking at for some time," declared Stephen Cleary, executive manager of Qantas Freight. "Demand for airfreight between Texas and Australia is well established, and we will offer customers a competitive advantage with the only direct operation."
Qantas may not have a direct competitor on the Dallas/Forth Worth-Sydney sector, but it faces a fight on the eastbound stage between Shanghai and Dallas/Forth Worth. On May 20, Yangtze River Express started a B747-400 freighter service to Dallas/Fort Worth, flying four times a week Shanghai-LA-Dallas/Fort Worth.
Overall capacity between Australia and the US was up already before Qantas kicked off its Dalla/Fort Worth service. On July 1, Delta started passenger flights between Los Angeles and Sydney.
