JAL Decreases Cargo Fuel Surcharge from September 2009

8/13/2009 9:59:08 AM

Japan Airlines (JAL) has applied to the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) to revise from September 1, 2009, its international cargo fuel surcharge for flights departing from Japan only. The international cargo fuel surcharge will decrease on long-haul international routes from 66 yen per kg to 59 yen, on medium-haul international routes from 57 yen per kg to 51 yen, and on short-haul routes from 48 yen per kg to 43 yen.

Since April 01, 2009, JAL started adjusting its fuel surcharge levels on a monthly basis by using the one-month average fuel price of Singapore kerosene of the month before last. As the average fuel price of Singapore kerosene for the month of July in 2009 was US$72.44 per barrel, the benchmark fuel price used for calculation of the fuel surcharge level in September will be within the range of US$70.00 to US$74.99 per barrel, resulting in the fuel surcharge decrement as mentioned above.
