Ex-asia freighter demand up

9/24/2009 10:13:35 AM

US freighter operators say demand for B747 charter freighters on Pacific routes reported a marked increase in traffic out of Asia during August.

As a result, some operators intend to boost services, while others are increasing rates.

Delta Air Lines for one has reported higher traffic out of China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Vietnam. "Our freighters have been 100 per cent positionally full for the past 45 days," said Neel Shah, vice-president of cargo.

Cathay, Lufthansa, Air France-KLM, Japan Airlines, All Nippon Airways, SIA and CargoLux all want a 15 to 30 per cent increase in freight rates, effective October 1. Many already have increased rates by 10 to 15 per cent.
