FedEx Expands in France, Mexico

10/22/2009 9:38:52 AM

FedEx Express completed expansions of a hub in France and a bonded warehouse in Mexico this week, strengthening the infrastructure in its global network.

“Growing the FedEx footprint in key markets such as France and Mexico is part of a long-term international growth strategy designed to enhance our ability to provide world-class service to our customers,” said Michael L. Ducker, president, international, FedEx Express. “These substantial network expansions are also well-timed. As an economic recovery begins to take hold around the world, FedEx is well-positioned to connect our customers to opportunities in the global marketplace.”

The FedEx Express European Hub at Charles de Gaulle Airport, in its 10th year of operation, now has total floor space of 828,821 square feet. The sort area was expanded from 533,889 square feet to 775,001 square feet. The hub employs 2,600 team members and handles 300 flights per week. It is now the largest FedEx hub outside the United States.

The bonded warehouse at the Guadalajara International Airport in Mexico will support international shipping to and from 10 Mexican states as well as Mexican domestic shipments, with larger and faster shipment processing capacity and custom clearance efficiencies.

The warehouse adds 42,054 square feet to the original 42,657 square feet, reduces shipment processing time by up to 40 percent with a sorting capacity of 4,000 packages per hour, and increases storage capacity by 83 percent. State-of-the-art technology also speeds processing, with same-day delivery of inbound shipments and faster outbound freight delivery.
