BA to cut 1200 more jobs

11/12/2009 10:19:45 AM

UK carrier British Airways says it will cut an extra 1,200 jobs in an "essential" cost-reduction program after it announced last week’s half-year after-tax loss of GBP217 million.

"Aviation remains in recession," its ceo Willie Walsh said.

"With revenue likely to be one billion pounds lower this year, we can't stand still and further cost reduction is essential," he warned.

The 1,200 jobs will take the carrier’s total planned reduction to 4,900 by 2010.

Most new job losses will affect non-UK-based staff.
