Cathay applies to fly Moscow route

2/22/2010 9:46:44 AM

Cathay Pacific Airways has announced plans to fly to Moscow three times a week in a service that will make 50 tonnes of belly cargo space available.

The airline is in the process of applying to the relevant authorities and looks forward to finalising flight details as soon as the regulatory approvals are in place.

Moscow has been on our radar screen for some time now,” said Cathay Pacific chief executive Tony Tyler.

Subject to regulatory approval, Cathay plans to operate a thrice-weekly service to Moscow with Airbus A340-300 aircraft.

The intended new service is planned to begin this summer and is sure to provide popular with forwarders and logistics operators. As a wide-bodied aircraft, the A340 can carry 25 percent more belly cargo than a 747.

Cathay Pacific currently has a code share arrangement with the Russian national carrier Aeroflot on the Hong Kong-Moscow route.
