China Southern Airlines' 400th aircraft, an Airbus A330-200, arrived in Guangzhou late last week, making the air carrier the world's sixth largest by fleet size and Asia's only one with a 400-jet fleet, China Daily Information reported.
The fleet of China Southern Airlines consists of 400 Airbus and Boeing jetliners. Five Airbus A380 jumbo jets are to be delivered to China Southern from February 2011, and 10 Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners are scheduled to be put into service from next year.
The airline's flights are centered in Guangzhou and Beijing, covering 150 domestic destinations and 40 destinations in Asia, and reaching as far as the US, Europe, and Africa. China Southern operates 1,500 to 2,000 flights daily on 660 routes around the world.
FedEx's fleet of 670 aircraft topped the fleet ranking in 2009 by the International Air Transport Association. American Airlines' 610 air jets ranked second, followed by Delta Air Lines' 443 aircraft, Lufthansa Airlines' 437, and Air France's 402.
