Germany's Lufthansa says it carried 20.5 per cent more cargo in September than a year ago and that it did better than its main European rivals Air France-KLM and British Airways.
Freight tonnage reached 1.47 million metric tons in the first nine months of the year, an increase of 19.3 per cent on the same period in 2009.
By comparison, Air France-KLM boosted cargo traffic six per cent in September on a 2.7 per cent increase in capacity and British Airway shipments grew 1.4 per cent measured in cargo tonne kilometres, Lufthansa said.
