Passengers up, freight down for Asia Pacific airlines

2/1/2012 9:08:41 AM

The Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) says its members reported steady growth in international air passenger demand but weak international freight markets last year.

The 16 member airlines carried 190 million international passengers for the year, up 3.5 per cent on 2010.

Air cargo demand (in freight tonne kilometres) fell 4.8 per cent in 2011, while the load factor declined 3.4 percentage points to 66.6 per cent.

AAPA director general Andrew Herdman cautioned that airlines worldwide are expecting another challenging year.
