Asia Pacific airlines air freight demand increases 4.7pc in April

6/3/2014 8:36:14 AM

ASIA Pacific air carriers saw demand increase in international cargo in April by 4.7 per cent measured by freight tonne kilometres (FTK), but load factors remained under pressure.

According to the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA), freight capacity expanded by 5.3 per cent while international freight load factor averaged 64.3 per cent during April, 0.4 percentage points lower than the same month last year.

International passengers were robust at 7.4 per cent increase, cited a report from Atlanta area Air Cargo World.

AAPA director-general Andrew Herdman said the positive growth in the global economy has underpinned overall demand for the region's carriers up 4.2 per cent. Problems persist of intense competition and "signs of overcapacity and the resulting yield pressures," he added.
