Evergreen Line said that it will start up a new feeder service late this month between Singapore and ports in Myanmar (Burma) and Malaysia.
Evergreen said it's operating the service in response to increasing market demand for feeder space. It said "recent political and economic reforms have attracted significant amounts of foreign investment to the country, enhancing its potential for long-term economic growth" and noted the country has "the advantage of reasonably priced labor and is endowed with abundant natural resources."
In May the United States eased a ban on investments in the country.
Evergreen Line will deploy the 1,164-TEU Ever Able to the SYS route, with the first sailing scheduled to depart from Singapore on Aug. 21. The Singapore-Yangon-Port Klang-Singapore rotation will take about 11-12 days. Yangon is also known as Rangoon.
Evergreen will also conduct a slot exchange with Advance Container Lines (ACL) on its Yangon routes to increase the frequency of feeder connections. ACL has two Yangon routes with roundtrip voyages of 10-12 days. Thee port rotations for those services are as follows:
- YGS1: Singapore-Yangon -Port Klang-Singapore.
- YGS2: Singapore-Yangon-Singapore
