APL, Hamburg Sud go their own ways on west coast of Latin America

1/8/2013 10:19:01 AM

SINGAPORE's APL and Germany's Hamburg Sud have reduced their cooperation on services between Mexico and the west coast of Latin America, reports American Shipper.

APL has ended its Mexico-to-Central America MCX loop, on which German carrier Hamburg Sud and its subsidiary Alianca had previously taken slots. The MCX had been operated with the 1,304-TEU Mercs Jaffna, which is now deployed on APL's weekly WCX loop between Mexico, Central America, and the west coast of South America.

In turn, both Hamburg Sud and Alianca have ended their participation on the WCX service with the December 22 sailing of the Cap Pallisar. Hamburg Sud previously supplied one of the three ships in the 1,500-TEU range on the loop.

APL has also added a call at Acajutla and dropped calls at La Union and Puerto Caldera on the WCX, revising its rotation to include Lazaro Cardenas, Puerto Quetzal, Acajutla, Balboa, Paita, Guayaquil, Balboa, Acajutla, Puerto Quetzal and back to Lazaro Cardenas.
