Port of Tacoma’s Container Volume Continues to Rise

7/23/2013 10:29:25 AM

The Port of Tacoma reported its container volume in the first six months of 2013 was 930,794 20-foot-equivalent units, increasing 29 percent year-over-year.

International container volume jumped 41 percent year-to-date, with a 40 percent gain in imports to 345,421 TEUs and a 38 percent increase in exports to 260,554 TEUs. Domestic container volume inched up 0.5 percent year-over-year.

The double-digit gains continued to reflect the addition of the Grand Alliance and its associated carriers last July, as well as positive year-to-date growth from established customers, the Washington state port said in a written statement.

International container volume growth is expected to moderate in August, as August 2013 marked the first full month in which Grand Alliance vessels called Tacoma, the port noted.
