Port of Long Beach TEU Volume Rose 1.8 Percent in June

7/19/2013 11:22:57 AM

The Port of Long Beach reported its June container volume totaled 565,476 20-foot-equivalent units, up 1.8 percent compared with the same month last year.

Monthly exports, which inched up by 0.1 percent year-over-year, were 133,800 TEUs, while imports in June rose 3.5 percent to 290,448 TEUs.

The volume of empty containers was basically flat compared with June 2012, up just 44 TEUs to 141,228 TEUs.

For the first six months of 2013, cargo container volume rose 14.2 percent year-over-year, including 16.2 percent growth in imports, 10.1 percent growth in exports and 14.8 percent more empties. The gains were partially driven by larger ships calling at the port more frequently, the port said in a written statement.
