Long Beach TEU Volume Up by Double-Digits

5/17/2013 9:12:49 AM

The Port of Long Beach in April recorded strong double-digit growth in container volumes compared to April 2012.

Long Beach in April reported an increase of 13.5 percent in containerized imports, a 14.5 percent increase in exports and a 12.5 percent increase in total container volume over April 2012.

The Port of Los Angeles, meanwhile, reported a 9.5 percent drop in volume year-over-year.

Two large carriers, Mediterranean Shipping and CMA CGM, late last year took an equity stake in Long Beach and shifted some services to Long Beach from Los Angeles.

Container volumes at the combined Los Angeles-Long Beach complex were down slightly in April compared to April 2012. The total container volume at the Los Angeles-Long Beach port complex in April declined 1 percent from April 2012, with imports down 1 percent and exports off 3 percent.

The total container volume handled at the Los Angeles-Long Beach port complex through April is up 4 percent year-over-year.
