Golden Sea Shipping combines Thai, Myanmar feeders

8/3/2013 8:41:30 AM

AN all-water Yangon-Straits-Bangkok-Laem Chabang service that bolsters inland connections between Myanmar and Thailand, is being started by Singapore's Golden Sea Shipping Pte Ltd (GSS) by combining its Straits-Thailand string with its Myanmar feeder service, used by Gold Star Line (GSL).

The new Myanmar-Thailand (MTS) service thereby plies a butterfly route centered around the ports of Port Kelang, Malaysia and Singapore, reports Alphaliner.

The port rotation for the MTS is: Singapore, Port Kelang, Yangon, Port Kelang, Singapore, Port Kelang, Bangkok, Laem Chabang, Singapore. The service deploys three 1,100-1,200 TEU vessels, and turns in three weeks.

In a separate development, GSS is merging its Thailand and Vietnam feeder services hubbing at Port Kelang within a composite service named Vietnam-Thailand-Straits service (VTS) that is jointly operated with GSL.

The port rotation of the VTS is: Port Kelang, Pasir Gudang, Port Kelang, Bangkok, Laem Chabang, Port Kelang, Ho Chi Minh City, Port Kelang. It uses three 1,500 TEU ships and turns in three weeks.

Alphaliner said the VTS represents the southern string of GSL's China-Vietnam-Thailand-Straits Express (CVX/CTX), which as a result of the launch of the VTS service will be split into two loops.

The two loops of the CVX/CTX are the VTS service and a new string operated solely by GSL, named the China-Vietnam-Thailand Express (CVX).

The port rotation of CVX loop is: Ningbo, Shanghai, Xiamen, Ho Chi Minh City, Bangkok, Laem Chabang, Ho Chi Minh City, Hong Kong, Ningbo. It turns in three weeks and uses three ships of 1,200-1,470 TEU.

The report added that COSCO, NYK, OOCL, Hasco and X-Press Feeders buy slots on the northern segment of the CVX/VTX in continuation of their existing slots (NYK brands it CBS and OOCL brands it LCS).
