Hapag-Lloyd implements Montreal low water charge

7/30/2013 9:21:06 AM

Hapag-Lloyd said it is implementing a "low water surcharge," effective Aug. 5, for cargo moving between Montreal and North Europe, the Mediterranean and Africa as well as East Asia, Indian Subcontinent and the Middle East.

The German carrier cautioned earlier this month that it might implement the surcharge if the water fell to a level that affected its available loading capacity.

The charge will be $100 per 20-foot container and $150 per 40-foot container for inbound cargo and $60 per 20-foot container and $95 per 40-foot container outbound.

Hapag-Lloyd said the services concerned are the AT1 St. Lawrence Cont. Service-Route 1 (SLCS1), AT2 St. Lawrence Cont. Service-Route 2 (SLCS2), and MCA JMCS Route A.
