Maersk Line, MSC to Hike Rates Between Africa and Asia

Effective Aug. 1, Maersk Line will boost rates on its trade from South Africa to the Middle East and Indian subcontinent by $100 per 20-foot container.

The container line will also hike rates for shipments from the Far East to the west coast of South America, Central America and the Caribbean by $100 per 20-foot, starting Aug. 15.

Furthermore, for trade between the east coast of South America, and Europe and the Middle East, the carrier will raise rates by $300 per container, beginning Sept. 1.

Additionally, starting Aug. 1, Maersk Line will simplify local surcharges for Russia. It has also revised its Saudi Arabia detention tariff scheduled for Sept. 1.

Separately, Mediterranean Shipping Co. said it will implement a rate increase on its Cheetah service from Asia to South Africa, Mozambique and East Africa. The hike, which will take effect Sept. 1, will be $500 per 20-foot-equivalent unit.
