Ocean carriers in the ESPMC-WITASS conference, which covers the Europe/Caribbean/South America trade, will in May raise their Panama Canal surcharges to redress the impact of higher toll fees for the Central American isthmus.
The surcharge for southbound sailings will next month rise to 150 euros ($200) per TEU while northbound sailings will increase to 195 euros ($260) per TEU.
The Panama Canal Authority has recently introduced its third staged toll increase in accordance with the new measurement and pricing system that took effect two years ago.
Carriers in the ESPMC-WITASS conference are CMA CGM, Compania Sud Americana de Vapores (CSAV), Hamburg Sud, Hapag-Lloyd and “K” Line.
