SWISS freight transportation and logistics giant, Kuehne + Nagel, plans to expand its contract logistics operations and capacity across the entire Gulf region to over 200,000 square metres by 2010.
By aligning its contract logistics activities for the United Arab Emirates and greater Gulf region, the company plans to meet the demands of the growing Middle East market.
Key to the company's expansion strategy is its second logistics hub at the Dubai Logistics City, which will go into operation next year.
"Our objective is to become one of the region's top five contract logistics providers," said Dirk Reich, contract logistics member on the board.
Kuehne + Nagel has been active in the UAE since 1977. Today, it offers international forwarding in Dubai and across the Gulf region. Increasingly, major international companies are setting up production facilities and building up stocks in Dubai, and Kuehne + Nagel aims to tap opportunities there.
Kuehne + Nagel last September signed a lease agreement for an area of 52,000 square metres at Dubai Logistics City, paving the way for the development of the company's Dubai base into the principal Kuehne + Nagel distribution hub for the Middle East. Upon completion of the first phase of construction, the new facility will go into operation in mid-2008.
