Cosco Container Lines announced plans to launch an independent liner service linking the Far East and the Red Sea, effective in early January, 2009.
The new service, the Far East-Red Sea Express, combines its two existing services (FRS and SRS) on the route, the carrier said in a release.
The fixed-day weekly service will be operated with six 3,400-TEU vessels, providing a 49-day round-trip voyage.
The port rotation is Xingang, Qingdao, Shanghai, Ningbo, Yantian, Singapore, Aden, Jeddah, Aqaba, Sokhna, Singapore, and back to Xingang.
The first sailing is from Xingang on Jan. 3.
In addition, the carrier will phase in one 1,400-TEU vessel to operate its new Red Sea Feeder Service (RSF), calling Jeddah, Port Sudan, Hodeidah, and Jeddah.
The move comes after Yang Ming Line, "K" Line, Hanjin Shipping and China Shipping Container Lines announced a joint service on the same route, calling Shanghai, Ningbo, Shekou, Singapore, Jeddah, El Sokhna, Aqaba, Singapore, and Shanghai, effective in February.
