Despite the Grad-Katyusha rocket attacks on the city of Ashdod no ship deviated or left the port. Port of Haifa: all necessary steps taken to back Ashdod Port
Several rockets hit the city of Ashdod last week causing damage to several buildings.
Located 25km from Tel Aviv, Ashdod Port is the closest to Israel's commercial centre, handling 808,700 TEU in 2007, an increase of 17 per cent year on year, according to its website.
Throughout last week the port was operating normally with no reported stoppages. Although it was initially understood that if the attacks would intensify ships with berthing windows at Ashdod would refuse to go there and seek to discharge cargo elsewhere, all ships arrived.
Reuven Zuck, head of the Israeli Chamber of Shipping, noted in a press interview that despite the Grad-Katyusha rocket attacks on the city of Ashdod no ship deviated or left the port.
Meanwhile the port of Haifa informed that it had taken all necessary steps to back Ashdod Port in case ships would not be able to enter the port.
