The Federal Government is to set up a task force to remove all the impediments that led to the congestion in Nigeria’s sea ports in the last four months, All Africa reported.
This was part of the resolutions contained in a communiqué issued at the end of a one day stakeholders forum on port congestion organised by the Federal Government, at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers, Ikeja, Lagos.
Stakeholders are expected to reconvene in a month's time to assess the progress made. The communiqué which was issued and jointly signed by Minister of Transport, Alhaji Ibrahim Bio, and his Finance counterpart, Mansur Mukthar, stated that in order to ensure the integrity in the clearing process, with effect from April 1, 2009, the Nigerian Customs should ensure that manifest received from shipping companies, in addition to current information, should contain consignee's full name and address.
The task force that is expected to be constituted not later than January 12, 2009 will conclude its assignment within 60 days.
