Effective immediately, Grand Alliance members Hapag-Lloyd, MISC Berhad, NYK and OOCL will re-route all eastbound EU3 service vessels around the Cape of Good Hope, instead of transiting the Suez Canal
The decision is in response to high Suez Canal toll fees, which shipping lines can ill-afford in the current economic crisis.
The EU3 port rotation remains the same: Southampton > Hamburg > Rotterdam > Port Kelang > Singapore > Shekou > Hong Kong > Ningbo > Shanghai.
The diversion adds seven days to the schedule.
Ten 8,000+ TEU ships are operating on the service.
There are currently no changes planned for the westbound trade.
The Grand Alliance will consider re-routing more services if the overall economic situation does not improve.
