Jacksonville loses one service, gains two

3/30/2009 9:28:57 AM

Jacksonville's recently opened TraPac Container Terminal at Dames Point will lose one container service, but gain two new container services in coming months.

CMA CGM announced earlier this week that it and the New World Alliance of MOL, APL and Hyundai Merchant Marine will cancel their ESX/SAX service, which calls at the TraPac terminal that opened in January.

In its place, the Florida port will see two existing New World Alliance services, the NYX and the CNY, add calls at the TraPac Terminal in Jacksonville. CMA CGM does not participate in those services.

The NYX service will operate in the following rotation: Shanghai, Ningbo, Yantian, Hong Kong, Kaohsiung, Manzanillo, New York, Norfolk, Savannah, Jacksonville, Miami, Manzanillo, Balboa, Busan and Shanghai. The first ship calling Jacksonville departs from Shanghai on April 8 and arrives in Jacksonville on May 13. Ningbo has also been added as a port to the service.

The CNY service will now operate in the following rotation: Chiwan, Hong Kong, Kaohsiung, Busan, Kobe, Tokyo, Balboa, Manzanillo, Miami, Jacksonville, Savannah, Charleston, New York, Norfolk, Charleston, Manzanillo, Los Angeles, Oakland, Tokyo, Kobe and Chiwan. The first ship calling Jacksonville in this string leaves Chiwan on April 11 and arrives in Jacksonville on May 9.

The last ship in the ESX/SAX service, the CMA CGM Chateau D'If, will depart from Ningbo on March 30 and arrive in Jacksonville around April 27-29. (Chateau D'If, by the way, is the fortress/prison in the Mediterranean near Marseilles made famous by the Alexandre Dumas novel The Count of Monte Cristo.)
