NileDutch, a niche ocean container and multipurpose shipping line, has teamed up with Japanese shipping giant NYK to launch a new direct liner service linking Asia with South and West Africa.
The twice-a-month service, deploying four chartered ships of between 2,200 TEUs and 2,700 TEUs nominal intake, will start on June 17 with the arrival of the MV Commodore in Shanghai.
The SWAX service will call at Shanghai, Shekou [China], Singapore, Durban, Lome [Togo], Tema [Ghana] and Lagos, Nigeria.
The new service, the first joint venture between the two carriers, marks a return to West Africa by NYK after a long absence, and expands the African network of Rotterdam-based NileDutch which until has focused on oil rich Angola and Congo for over twenty five years.
NileDutch operates a fleet of 19 ships on deep sea liner services between Angola and Europe, Brazil, the Persian Gulf and Asia.
