CMA CGM, Hapag-Lloyd and Hamburg Sud will reduce vessel capacity by combining two of their liner services in August into a new direct service between the East Coast of South America and North Europe.
The joint service will consist of two weekly rotations to replace the two services they now operate separately on the same route, the SAFRAN service operated by CMA CGM and Maruba and the two SAEC services operated by Hapag-Lloyd.
The three carriers said the two rotations would better match the capacity on this trade with market demand, provide wider port coverage through new port calls at Salvador de Bahia and Suape in Brazil and improve frequency while steaming at speeds that would reduce fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.
The rotation of the two loops will be as follows:
Sling 1: Rotterdam, Tilbury, Hamburg, Antwerp, Le Havre, Santos, Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Rio Grande, Santos, Suape and back to Rotterdam
Sling 2: Rotterdam, Hamburg, Antwerp, Le Havre, Sepetiba, Navegantes, Paranagua, Santos, Sepetiba/Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, Tangier and back to Rotterdam.
Hamburg Sud will operate the six 5,900-TEU vessels deployed on Sling 1.
Sling 2 will deploy six 2,800-TEU vessels of which four will be operated by CMA CGM and its partner Maruba and two by Hapag-Lloyd.
The first vessel sailing on Sling 1 will be the Hamburg Sud Rio Negro, which will call at Rotterdam on Aug. 6.
The first sailing on Sling 2 will be the CMA CGM Violet, which will call at Rotterdam on Aug. 9.
