Hanjin Shipping and United Arab Shipping Co. plan to launch a joint service between Spain and West Africa on March 1, the South Korean carrier said Thursday.
Each carrier will provide one of the two ships of 1,700 20-foot equivalent units capacity that make up the new service.
Named WAF (West Africa Service), this new service will run between Valencia, Lagos, Cotonou, Tema and Abidjan.
Hanjin said it will switch the calling port in Spain in April from Valencia to Algeciras, where it will open its new dedicated terminal, which it expects to become its new logistics hub in the Mediterranean and West African regions.
Hanjin said the introduction of WAF will enable it to expand its presence in Africa, one of the world’s fastest growing markets, and provide service quality by extending the scope of its service range.
