Stefan Schulte, chief executive of German airport operator Fraport, is optimistic about future industry developments, following the financial crisis that sparked a contraction in air traffic volumes.
"Traffic volumes are rising considerably again," Schulte said.
Freight volumes have reached pre-crisis levels, and passenger volumes for national, continental and intercontinental flights are also increasing, he added.
Fraport July group passenger volume was up nearly 12 percent on the year, while Frankfurt airport passenger numbers rose 7.8 percent, a record rise for a single month, reported Dow Jones Newswires.
Separately, Austrian airport operator Flughafen Wien said passenger numbers at its Vienna airport jumped 13 percent on the year in August, following an 11 percent rise in July.
