Shanghai Port remained in front of Singapore in total throughput in the first nine months of this year after reporting a 14.3 percent increase in September volumes.
As the shipping gateway to the Yangtze River Delta, the port benefits from the export-orientated industries clustered among the nearby provinces of Zhejiang and Jiangsu, reported China Knowledge Press.
According to statistics from the Shanghai Custom Inspection Department, Shanghai Port's container throughput jumped 14.3 percent year-on-year to 2.54 million TEUs in September.
The container throughput of the Waigaoqiao Port and Yangshan Deepwater Port in September increased by 10.2 percent and 23.2 percent year-on- year to 1.29 million TEUs and 888,600 TEUs, respectively.
The port's container throughput totalled 21.6 million TEUs in the first nine months of this year, 356,000 TEUs more than that of Singapore Port.
