Vostochnaya Stevedoring Company and Baltic Refrigerator Company have jointly launched a new regular service to handle high-capacity reefer containers.
The first two reefer trains originating in Predportovaya station in St Petersburg bound for Nakhodka East were handled at the VSC container terminal in late November, VSC said in a statement.
Most of reefer containers carrying frozen meat are consigned to Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatski. Some of the cargo is designated for consignees in Nakhodka and Vladivostok.
Reefer containers will be carried by sea to the ports of Sakhalin and Kamchatka by a partner in the project – coastal line Kamchatka Lines that operate at the VSC terminal.
In the return direction, the VSC terminal handles containers loaded with fish products of companies from Sakhalin, Kamchatka and Primorye. Reefer trains move in perishable goods transportation mode (at a high speed) to Khabarovsk, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg and Saint Petersburg.
In the future the company plans to expand the service: high-capacity reefer containers will be dispatched from the stations in Sverdlovsk, Moscow, Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk and Khabarovsk for subsequent handling at the VSC terminal and transportation by sea to Kamchatka and Sakhalin.
