A consortium of liner carriers will omit one of two calls at Durban on a single sailing of their joint Asia/Africa service, according to a note from Hapag-Lloyd, one of the service’s operators.
The loop, called WAX by China Shipping and “K” Line, SWX by NYK Line and WSX by Hapag-Lloyd, has an existing rotation of Shanghai, Ningbo, Xiamen, Shekou, Singapore, Pot Kelang, Durban, Tema, Lome, Cotonou, Lagos (Tin Can Island), Durban, Port Kelang, Singapore and Shanghai.
Due to delays on the eastbound leg, the call at Durban is being deleted on an existing sailing now due to call Port Kelang on Sept. 9, with the vessel sailing straight from Lagos to Port Kelang, Hapag-Lloyd said. Cargo moving from West Africa to Durban will be transshipped in Port Kelang and unloaded in Durban on the westbound leg of the service departing Sept. 10 from the Malaysian port. Export cargo from Durban to Asia will be rolled over to the next eastbound sailing.
The loop is operated with 11 vessels (four from China Shipping, three each from “K” Line and NYK, and one from Hapag-Lloyd) with an average capacity of 2,559 TEUs. NileDutch is a slot buyer.
