Tan Cang – Cai Mep International Terminal Co., Ltd (TCIT) is a joint venture established in 2009 by the biggest terminal operator in Vietnam, Saigon Newport Corporation (SNP) and three leading shipping companies: Hanjin Shipping (HJS), Mitsui O. S. K. Lines (MOL) and Wan Hai Lines (WHL) for the purpose of operating Phase II of the Tan Cang - Cai Mep Terminal Project, developed by SNP.
Only eight months from commencing operations in January 2011, TCIT has already obtained the top ranking among container terminals in Cai Mep in terms of volume and service quality. With full support from its partners, TCIT will soon become a world-class container terminal.
Neighboring the biggest manufacturing area in Vietnam: Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Dong Nai and Ba Ria-Vung Tau provinces, Cai Mep has been developed as Vietnam’s first deep-water port to accommodate large container vessels for direct linkage to the main export destinations in North America and Europe. Also, Cai Mep has great potential to become an important logistics hub in the region due to its geographical location between Hong Kong and Singapore. It takes only two days to/from Phnom Penh by barge and is closer to the Mekong Delta which exports a significant volume of rice and sea products.
Along with abundant barges and the logistics network connected with Tan Cang Port, Cat Lai Terminal, ICD Song Than in Binh Duong, ICD Long Binh in Bien Hoa, Dong Nai and other ICDs in Ho Chi Minh City: Tanamexco, Transimex, Sotrans, Phuc Long and Phuoc Long, TCIT has been offering the most reliable and competitive services responding to the wide range of requirements of its customers.
TCIT’s facilities have undergone intensive investment, with a total area of 40ha, including 2 berths of a total 590m length and the container yard of 34ha. Equipped with six Post-Panamax ship-to-shore gantry cranes, TCIT can handle a very large container vessel of more than 10,000 TEU class. Owing to a seamless extension of the quay adding another 300m in length which also belongs to TCCT, a subsidiary of SNP operating Phase I of the same project, 3 mother vessels can be operated on at the same time in the two terminals. SNP-Tan Cang group companies have been offering the first class pilot and harbor tug boats for every vessel calling to TCIT & TCCT to ensure navigational safety.
In the container yard, there are 20 storage areas in total and each is equipped with an electrical driven rubber-tired gantry crane (e-RTG). With these environmentally friendly yard equipment, TCIT aims to produce the least emissions possible during operations.
TCIT has brought great value to customers by means of IT tools represented by the cutting edged terminal operation systems, which enable TCIT more efficient terminal operations and better management in real time. It can lend support to every scene of operations from planning, monitoring and performing general operations. The Digital GPS and wireless system can identify an exact container location on a vessel and in the CY. In addition, EDI system is available throughout transactions and communications with customers. TCIT has also invested in an automatic message system. It helps customers locate containers in the CY or on barge. TCIT even cooperates with banks to deploy an electromagnetic payment service (E-banking) which allows customers to make fast payment without the need for cash.
Despite being in its first operating year as a new terminal, TCIT cargo throughput has risen dramatically in Cai Mep thanks to the great support from its customers, partners and contractors. TCIT will never stop its efforts to fulfill its mission to provide the most reliable and competitive services to customers, ensuring safety, health and environmental sustainability.
