Mediterranean Shipping Co.'s new dedicated service between ports in Northern Europe and the west coast of South America will target Ecuadorian fresh fruit exports.
MSC plans to deploy six vessels on the weekly service, each with capacities of about 4,250 20-foot equivalent container units and 700 refrigerated container plugs.
Maersk Line launched a similar service between Ecuador and Mediterranean ports in September. The new MSC service will have the following port rotation: Guayaquil, Balboa, Cristobal, Bremerhaven, Rotterdam, Antwerp, Balboa and back to Guayaquil.
The service will kick off with the northbound voyage of the Santa Rosanna from Guayaquil on Oct. 28. The first southbound voyage will occur when the Santa Rosanna sails from Bremerhaven on Nov. 14.
