Maersk Line said it will suspend its ICON service between the Indian Subcontinent and Europe from early February, and will link the region to Europe via two existing Far East-Northern Europe loops.
The ICON has a rotation of Felixstowe, Zeebrugge, Rotterdam, Bremerhaven, Salalah, Colombo, Salalah, and Felixstowe. It’s operated with six Maersk vessels with an average capacity of 4,228 TEUs, according to ComPair Data. Maersk subsidiary line Safmarine takes slots.
Maersk said the calls on the service will essentially be merged into its Daily Maersk network from the Far East to Northern Europe by adding a westbound call at Colombo to its AE7 service and an eastbound call at Colombo to its AE1 service. Chittagong will be served via a feeder to Tanjung Pelepas, and Chennai will be served via a feeder to Colombo. The changes will take place after the Chinese New Year.
The changes won’t affect the guaranteed service times for Daily Maersk, the line said.
