Tampa Port Authority said Atlantic Ro-Ro Carriers will launch a new multipurpose general cargo service between the Port of Tampa and Russia's St. Petersburg this month.
The service will begin with the arrival of Atlantic Ro-Ro’s ship Baltic Mercur at Tampa on Jan. 14.
Atlantic Ro-Ro will offer monthly sailings from the Florida port, using versatile multipurpose tweendeckers that have both ramps for roll-on/roll-off cargo and their own cranes. The ships are capable of carrying breakbulk cargoes, such as steel, as well as containers, vehicles, project cargoes, and bulk commodities.
Established in 1995, Atlantic Ro-Ro operates regular liner services between Russia and the U.S. East and Gulf coasts, both of which offer two sailings per month. The East Coast service connects St. Petersburg with New York and Baltimore, with a 14-day transit time from Baltimore to St. Petersburg. The Gulf service operates between St. Petersburg and Houston, New Orleans, and now Tampa on every other voyage and with an 18-day transit to St. Petersburg.
Vladimir Eremin, manager operations and sales, said Atlantic Ro-Ro offers service not only to St. Petersburg, but door-to-door service in Russia and CIS countries.
