CMA CGM imposed port congestion surcharges on all inbound containers handled at Mombasa, Kenya, and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, starting Jan. 15.
The planned surcharges on Mombasa cargo will be $210 per 20-foot container and $420 per 40-foot high cube container. For shipments to Dar es Salaam, the French carrier will levy surcharges of $100 per 20-foot container and $200 per 40-foot/high cube container.
The bottleneck fees will apply to all cargo shipped on CMA CGM’s Swahili Service connecting India, the Middle East and Africa, CMA CGM India said.
The move follows similar surcharge announcements by other major carriers including Maersk Line and Emirates Shipping Line.
