The liner shipping companies Hamburg Süd and CCNI have commenced their new weekly PACE West Coast feeder service with the Feb. 13 departure of Cap Palmerston from Hamburg Süd's Caribbean hub in Cartagena, Colombia.
Hamburg Süd subsidiary Alianca will charter slots. PACE will operate with four vessels averaging 1,799 TEUs, three from Hamburg Süd and one from CCNI.
The port rotation will be Cartagena, Puerto Quetzal, Manzanillo (Mexico), Long Beach, Oakland, Mazanillo (Mexico), Lazaro Cardenas, Puerto Quetzal, and Cartagena.
This service launch follows the ending of Hamburg Süd’s long WAMS pendulum service, with a final sailing by Cap Preston from Rotterdam on Jan. 14. WAMS sailed weekly with 10 vessels averaging 1,894 TEUs. Hamburg Süd operated seven vessels and CCNI operated three. The WAMS service rotation was Rotterdam, Tilbury, Hamburg, Le Havre, Cartagena, Puerto Quetzal, Lazaro Cardenas, Long Beach, Oakland, Seattle, Vancouver, Oakland, Long Beach, Lazaro Cardenas, Puerto Quetzal, Cartagena, Tanger, and Rotterdam.
Hamburg Süd has now joined Hapag-Lloyd's improved weekly MPS service linking the West Mediterranean with the West Coast North America. Like WAMS, the 2,562-TEUs average MPS links Tangiers and Cartagena with California but also includes the Pacific North West as far north as Vancouver. Hamburg Süd provides two the 10 MPS vessels, alongside eight from Hapag-Lloyd, with Alianca taking slots. CCNI is not involved.
