Hamburg Süd has christened two container ships, the Cap San Nicholas and the Cap San Marco, at the Hyundai Heavy Industries yard in Ulsan, South Korea.
With a slot capacity of 9,600 20-foot-equivalent units, the two vessels are the container line’s largest-ever vessels, and with 2,100 refrigeration plugs, they have the largest reefer capacity of any ship worldwide.
After delivery, the Cap San Nicholas will be phased into the carrier’s service between Asia and the east coast of South America in June. The Cap San Marco will be deployed in the same service in July.
They are the first in a series of six ships of the new Cap San class. Two more Cap San ships will be delivered at the Korean yard this year, and the last two units will be handed over to Hamburg Süd in January 2014.
