Five carriers announced plans to reconfigure the slings of their joint service to meet peak-season demand on the trade between Asia and the West Coast of Mexico and South America.
Hamburg Sud, CCNI, China Shipping, Hanjin and Hyundai said the new service will continue to operate with two slings at increased capacity and new rotations, starting with changes in South America in June and finalizing with a new configuration in Asia at the end of August.
The carriers said the reconfigured service will improve transit times on both the eastbound and westbound legs and ensure a faster connection to the Pacific, Atlantic and Caribbean service network of the shipping group at the Balboa transshipment hub.
In the reconfigured service, Sling 1 will deploy 10 vessels with a capacity of between 4,500 and 5,700 20-foot-equivalent units, compared to 11 5,500-TEU vessels previously.
The port rotation of Sling 1 starting in June is as follows: Shanghai, Ningbo, Shekou, Hong Kong, Busan, Manzanillo (Mexico), Lazaro Cardenas, Callao, Iquique, Puerto Angamos, Valparaiso and Keelung.
The port rotation of Sling 1 will change in August 2012 to the following: Keelung, Hong Kong, Shekou, Xiamen, Ningbo, Shanghai, Busan, Manzanillo (Mexico), Lazaro Cardenas, Callao, Iquique, Puerto Angamos, Valparaiso and Keelung.
Sling 2 will deploy 11 container ships with a capacity of 5,500 TEUs each, compared to 10 ships of between 3,100 and 4,500-TEU capacity before.
The port rotation of Sling 2 starting in June will be as follows: Keelung, Hong Kong, Xiamen, Ningbo, Shanghai, Busan, Manzanillo (Mexico), Balboa, Buenaventura, Guayaquil, Puerto Angamos, Valparaiso, San Vicente,, Manzanillo (Mexico), Busan and Shanghai.
The port rotation in Sling 2 starting in August will change to the following: Shanghai, Ningbo, Yantian, Hong Kong, Busan, Manzanillo (Mexico), Balboa, Buenaventura, Guayaquil, Puerto Angamos, Valparaiso, San Vicente, Manzanillo (Mexico), Busan and Shanghai.
The new service rotation changes in South America will commence with the departure of the Xin da Lian on Sling 1 from Shanghai on June 17 and the Monte Sarmiento on Sling 2 from Keelung on June 12 June.
The new service rotation will finalize in Asia with the Xin da Lian on Sling 1 from Keelung on Aug. 26 and the Monte Sarmiento on Sling 2 from Shanghai on Aug. 30.
