Hapag/Hamburg switch Med-PNW call to Tacoma

6/20/2012 10:37:50 AM

Hapag-Lloyd said it plans to switch a call on its MPS service between the Mediterranean and the west coast of North America from Seattle to Tacoma, Wash.

The German line operates the service alongside compatriot line Hamburg Sud.

The move to Tacoma, scheduled to start from July 29, follows a similar move made earlier this year by the PNW service, operated by the Grand Alliance, of which Hapag-Lloyd is a member.

The MPS service is not affiliate with the Grand Alliance, but the line said the move to Tacoma would help it “further consolidate Hapag-Lloyd’s activities in the Pacific Northwest.”

The MPS’s rotation is currently Cagliari, Livorno, Genoa, Marseilles-Fos, Barcelona, Valencia, Tangiers, Cartagena, Manzanillo (Mexico), Los Angeles, Oakland, Seattle, Vancouver, Portland, Oakland, Los Angeles, Manzanillo (Mexico), Manzanillo (Panama), Cartagena, Caucedo, Tangiers, Valencia, and Cagliari.

The service is operated with 10 vessels (seven from Hapag-Lloyd and three from Hamburg Sud) with an average capacity of 2,767 TEUs.
