Mediterranean Shipping Co. said it will implement a general rate increase on all kinds of container equipment shipped from all points in the Far East to ports in the Caribbean and Panama and on the east coast of Central America, as well as Cartagena, Colombia, with the exception of Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela.
The rate hike, which takes effect July 15, will be $560 per 20-foot-equivalent container unit, $800 per 40-foot-equivalent container unit and high-cube container. The same increases will apply to cargo moving from the Far East to San Juan in Puerto Rico on July 19.
The general rate increase on cargo shipped from the Far East to Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela will be $840 per TEU and $1,200 per FEU and high-cube container.
