Mediterranean Shipping Company is starting a service from India’s Krishnanpatnam Port Container Terminal, bringing the number of container services at the new deep-water facility to two.
The service will begin calling on the east coast hub Oct. 29. Singapore-based Bengal Tiger Line last month launched a regional service from KPCT, linking Chennai, Singapore and Port Kelang.
MSC’s service will operate on a fixed-day weekly basis with the following rotation: Colombo, Sri Lanka; Krishnapatnam and Chennai, India; and Colombo.
The service will provide worldwide coverage of ports through MSC’s extensive network of services for both dry and reefer cargo, the Geneva-based carrier said.
The privately-owned Krishnapatnam Port, about 112 miles north of Chennai, began container operations in September last year. The terminal offers 2,130 feet of berth, a 44-foot draft, 4,000 ground slots and an annual capacity of 1.2 million 20-foot-equivalent units.
