SRI LANKA's state-owned Jaye Container Terminal (JCT) welcomed its first post-panamax containership, the 11,000-TEU MSC Luciana, on its maiden voyage.
The call by the MSC Luciana on the carrier's Cheetah service is a key event for the terminal showing that it can handle larger sized vessels ahead of Panama expansion, Sri Lankan Port Authority (SLPA) chairman Priyath Wickrama.
He also spoke of the additional terminal construction of the Colombo South Harbour that will be completed this year. Then "we will have the capacity to entertain largest triple E class vessels and Sri Lanka will be the only port in South Asia to handle large vessels."
The Cheetah service has the following port rotation of Durban, Port Louis, Colombo, Singapore, Far East, Singapore, Durban and Europe.
