Volume Climbs at Malaysian Ports

1/28/2013 11:30:49 AM

Malaysian ports boosted throughput by  2.8 percent last year.

Total throughput reached 20.8 million 20-foot-equivalent units, up from 20.2 million TEUs a year earlier, with rising intra-Asia traffic cited as a major driver of trade by Transport Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha.

Port Klang was Malaysia’s leading port last year, as throughput totaled 10 million TEUs, up 4.2 percent year-over-year.

The Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) handled 7.7 million TEUs in 2012, an increase of 2.9 percent compared to 2011.
